Somlói Residential Park

Budapest, Hungary | 2003-2006 | 8 000 m² | Completed

Somlói Residential Park is an exclusive complex of 56 apartments located in the residential district of Gellért Hill, surrounded by elegant villas and park-like gardens. The design aimed to create a contemporary residential development that responds to the scale of the surrounding urban fabric while establishing a distinctive architectural identity and providing a high standard of living.

The composition consists of three building volumes. Along Somlói Road, they form a street frontage aligned with the scale of the neighbouring villas, while the majority of the apartments face a large internal garden incorporating the site’s existing mature native trees. The park created within the L-shaped development provides the ground-floor apartments with direct access to landscaped green space, while views towards the city and Sas Hill open up from as early as the first floor.

The horizontally extended building mass is articulated into three distinct sections. The rhythm of enclosed and open façade zones further reinforces this division, while the strong horizontal lines of the terrace slabs and the recessed glazed walls create a lighter, layered façade character. The outer profile of the building is defined by movable shading panels positioned along the edges of the terraces, providing privacy and solar protection while giving the façade a constantly changing appearance.

One of the principal qualities of the apartments is their flexible layout, which allows considerable freedom in their subsequent interior configuration. The uppermost level accommodates larger, premium apartments, where the living spaces open directly onto roof terraces and panoramic views. The residential complex is therefore conceived as a synthesis of the urban panorama, a landscape-oriented living environment and contemporary architectural form.
